The greenhouse gas emissions trend of the last 28 years is positive: in 2018, emissions decreased by 17% compared to 1990, passing from 516 to 428 million tons of CO2 equivalent and 0.9% compared to the previous year . The decrease is due to the growth in the production of energy from renewable sources (hydroelectric and wind power) and to the increase in energy efficiency in industrial sectors. Agriculture sector emissions also fell (-13%), which make up 7% of greenhouse gas emissions, around 30 million tons of CO2 equivalent.
