In the Mediterranean area only plants that vegetate naturally can give a contribution to saving water and reducing the cost of plant cultivation. The use of spontaneous native herbaceous plants (wildflowers) in urban green spaces, however, is a recent technique in our country. More studies are therefore required in this regard to attain knowledge of the eco-physiological needs of the plants most suitable. The use of native herbaceous plants in the green spaces is a potential tool for sustainable management, both within the context of the legislation on the development of urban green spaces (January 2013 Law 14, no. 10) and also within the work on Urban Areas of carried out for the National Strategy for Biodiversity.
