Presentation of 2011 Special Waste Report
Rome, 13 April, ISPRA Auditorium, via Curtatone 7
Where do the largest amount of special waste come from? What is the
most common form of management and recovery of such waste? What was
the amount of special waste exported in 2008 compared to 2.1
million tons imported and composed almost exclusively of
non-hazardous waste?
Data, results of monitoring and management of special waste will be
the topics addressed at ISPRA's headquarters during the
presentation of the 2010 Special Waste Report, with the
participation of the President of the Institute for Environmental
Protection and Research, prof. Bernardo De Bernardinis and Director
Stefano Laporta.
The Report shows that in Italy, in the last three years, there was
a growth of total production of hazardous waste by almost 1.6
million tonnes.
Waste management in Italy shows a growing size over time, sometimes
up to become a real emergency. Research aims to improve the
efficiency of the management, monitoring and control systems, often
related to techniques and procedures not always adequate.
An answer to the problem in a positive sense comes from SISTRI, the
electronic system that allows to monitor in real time data on the
movement of hazardous waste, also through an effective surveillance
system on the territory.
