II European Conference on Nuclear Safety - Brussels, 11-12 June 2013

The second European Conference on Nuclear Safety will be held in Brussels on 11 and 12 June 2013. The event is organized by ENSREG (European Nuclear Safety Regulators Group), the Consultative Group of the Community institutions in the field of nuclear safety.

ISPRA, as a national regulatory authority for nuclear safety, participates in the activities of ENSREG since its establishment and is represented in this context by the General Director of the Institute.

Two years after Fukushima, the Conference aims to assess the state of nuclear safety in Europe, from the lessons learned from the accident and the consequent  actions taken.

The Italian delegation, lead by the ISPRA General Director, includes, in addition experts  of  the Nuclear Department, main representatives of the nuclear industry, such as Ansaldo, ENEL and SOGIN, and the body research such as ENEA and Universities.

The agenda includes consideration of the follow-up of the recommendations of Stress Tests of 2012, by implementation of action plans drawn up by the Member States in accordance with specific ENSREG.

Recommendations are expected on the first results achieved and challenges remaining to be solved. In addition, a session dedicated to the population protection and environment in relation how European countries response to nuclear emergencies.

The final session of the conference will focus on what will be the European contribution to the future of nuclear safety and what are the expectations of the stakeholders. The European Energy Commissioner Mr Günther Oettinger will conclude the work the conference
