UN: final report on Post-2015 development agenda

A High Level Panel nominated by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon,  has recently released the final report on the Post 2015 Development Agenda. Among the panelists the English Prime Minister David Cameron, the president of Liberia Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf and the president of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. Starting from the Millennium Development Goals ( MDGs) the new Agenda should be universal and with a vision to eradicate extreme poverty by 2030 in the context of a sustainable development for the planet. According to the Commission the development goals (MDGs) fell short by not integrating the economic, social, and environmental aspects of sustainable development as envisaged in the Millennium Declaration, and by not addressing the need to promote sustainable patterns of consumption and production. The result was that environment and development were never properly brought together. People were working hard, but often separately on interlinked problems. A new development agenda should carry forward the spirit of the Millennium Declaration and the best of the MDGs  taking into account the results and follow-up of RIO+20. The report points out that in order to achieve these goals, the main responsibility should lie with the Member States of the United Nations.
