Environmental Alert in Syberia: Daldykan river becomes red and authorities investigate
A rare phenomena occurred on the Daldykan River in Central Siberia, near the industrial city of Noril’sk, known as one of the most polluted cities in the world. Since last June local communities noticed the first changes of color of the river which is by now red purple. The first suspicions felt on the company which exploits the huge mineral deposit of the area, the MMC Norilsk Nichel. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation has started to collect reports and material sent, openly speaking of pollution by “a chemical substance not identified”.
