14th conference of the parties of United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD)
On Monday 2 September, the fourteenth session of the Conference of the Parties of United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification UNCCD (COP 14) that this year opens in New Delhi, until 13 September.
The topic theme of COP 14 is "Investing in Land; Unlocking Opportunities ”, that means to stimulate the involment of human and financial resources for the recovery of degraded and desertified areas seen as a sector that can create new opportunities. At the same time as COP 14, the official sessions of the subsidiary bodies of the Convention will take place, the eighteenth session of the Committee for the Review of Implementation of the Convention (CRIC 18) and the fourteenth session of the Committee on Science and Technology (CST 14).
COP14 aims to support countries to achieve Land Degradation Neutrality by providing the tools and resources needed for this purpose. Tools built on accurate and reliable information provided by scientific knowledge and data, processes and agreements on a participatory basis, which can benefit everyone.
At the conference more than 3.000 people are expected from all over the world, delegations of the 196 countries that are part of the Convention, such as scientists, experts of national and local governments, non-governmental organizations, experts in the private sector, industry, women, young people, journalists. An ISPRA expert will participate in the Italian delegation and represents the European countries in the Presidency Office of the CRIC, the subsidiary body that analyzes the real achievement of the UNCCD, also carrying out the function of Rapporteur.
