The XXV meeting of the network of directors of European agencies for nature conservation
The XXV meeting of the network of directors of European agencies for nature conservation is taking place in The Hague. For Italy, an expert from the ISPRA takes part to the meeting.
After the alarming data on the decline of global biodiversity and of the integrity of nature, the international community seeks to define strategies and policies for the period 2020-2030 to reverse this trend.
The upcoming Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Conservation of Biodiversity, which will take place in October 2020 in China, will have to adopt strategies and objectives for the post-2020 period, replacing the 20 Aichi Biodiversity Targets.
The main topics of discussion in the The Hague meeting are the role of protected areas and other area-based conservation measures—for which it is necessary to define new ambitious goals on a national and global scale--and the integration of the values of nature and its importance in sectoral policies (especially agriculture and fisheries) and intersectorial policies.
