Groundwater, a fundamental resource. New ISPRA video
ISPRA, on the occasion of World Water Day 2022, created a video dedicated to groundwater, in order to promote the importance of this strategic resource, fundamental for our water supply and to help make visible what to us it is invisible.
Italy, by virtue of the hydrogeological characteristics of the territory, possesses such an abundance of groundwater that it represents an inestimable economic resource, also for its excellent natural quality, compared to that of waterways and lakes, both natural and artificial. Although affected by the decrease in rainfall, this water resource is renewed annually for about 50 billion cubic meters.
In addition to this resource, there are also deep, not completely renewable reserves of even greater volume, hidden in the subsoil of our plains and mountains. Consider that groundwater is the source of more than 80 percent of our water supply.
