Environmental Economics
Under the Euro-Mediterranean Program for the Environment (Short and
Medium-Term Priority Environmental Action Program - SMAP), the SMAP
III Technical Assistance has organized an on line course in English
to delve the issues related to environmental economics and
sustainable development.
The course is addressed to anyone interested in discovering the
benefits and mechanisms of the environmental economics, not least
as a way to support policy decisions. The program of the course,
developed in collaboration with CEDARE (Center for Environment and
Development for the Arab Region and Europe) and the MIO-ECSDE
(Mediterranean Information Office for Environment, Culture and
Sustainable Development), is focused on the Euro-Mediterranean
context and is divided in 9 lessons, including exercises that
introduce students to the following topics: the basic economic
theory, concepts and techniques for environmental valuation, the
decision-support tools, with particular reference to
cost–benefit analysis, economic instruments and their use to
support sustainable development and sustainable financing.
