Biodiversity and climate change

During the audition in Committee Environment, Public Health and Food Safety of the European Parliament, the European commissioner Dimas has illustrated the priorities of the European environmental politics for 2009.
Among the 2009 priorities, Dimas has underlined the importance of the biodiversity, especially in view of the objectives fixed for 2010 (Communication of the Committee, 2006, May 22nd, "Arrest the loss of biodiversity within 2010 and over - Sustain the ecosystemic services for the human wealth").
Another main point of the European environmental politics for 2009 will be to define the position of the EU in view of the COP 15 (Conference Of the Parts) of the United Nation Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) that will be held in Copenaghen in November. Dimas has asserted besides that the Committee is working on proposals to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions in the heavy goods transport sector also including the emissions of ships.
