Sustainable Energy Europe Awards 2009
On
February 9-13 has been held the "European Week of sustainable
energy", which was an opportunity to discuss and confront the issue
of energy efficiency with several conferences and workshops
organized in many European cities.
Among the initiatives, were awarded the prizes of the third edition
of the "Sustainable Energy Europe Awards 2009" on February 10 in
Brussels.
The prestigious award is given annually by the European Commission
to good projects in the field of renewable energy, with the aim to
raise awareness and promote the development of initiatives about
energy in Europe.
This year were present more than 250 projects, divided into five
categories: Cooperation programs, demonstration projects and
dissemination, and changes in the market (including voluntary
commitments), promotional and educational actions, and sustainable
energy communities.
In the latter category recognition went both to Italy and the
United Kingdom, for our country the prize was awarded to the
"Consorzio Produttori Agricoli Acque Minerali Umbre s.r.l.,
Acquasparta" a consortium from Umbria composed of regional farmers
and local communities. The purpose of this project is to produce
renewable energy using wood and agricultural biomass, leading to
sustainable regional development. The initiative, for now limited
to the local level, is intended to be replicated throughout the
country.
