New LIFE Programme

From EU more funding for environment and climate

16 December The European Commission proposed to allocate EUR 3,2 billion over 2014-2020 to a new Programme for the Environment and Climate Action - LIFE, in order to improve the implementation of European Union policy and legislation for environment and climate, with a greater support to regional strategies to reduce carbon and climate change resistance. Evaluations of the current LIFE Programme show that a specific instrument for environment and climate has a significant added value. The next LIFE programme will build on the suc cess of its predecessor LIFE+ with new features: the creation of a new sub-programme for climate action; a clearer definition of priorities relating to multi-year programs adopted in consultation with Member States; new possibilities to implement programs on a large scale through "integrated projects " facilitating the mobilization of further funds at European, national or private level to achieve objectives concerning environment and climate. The new LIFE Programme will finance both public and private sector entities, it will mainly support projects in the 27 EU Member States and in addition some activities in third countries may be financed as a part of projects implemented in the Member States .
