EPA Network Meeting
From 24 to 25 September 2015, in Reykjavik, the Director General Ispra, Mr. Stefano Laporta, will attend the plenary session of the EPA (Environmental Protection Agencies) network, the European network that brings together the chiefs of national agencies for the protection of the environment or equivalent public bodies.
During the meeting they will focus on the following themes:
the mechanisms for making more efficient the role of EPA to promote green economy; pollution from plastic and microplastic in marine environment; effectiveness of citizen science activities and the role of the EPA; the impacts of GMO crops resistant to herbicide on the environment and biodiversity; the role of the blue economy in relation to green growth.
During the work session on the blue economy will be presented a report recently published by European Environment Agency, State of Europe's Seas, which five ISPRA experts participated in the drafting. The EPA network, set up in 2003 include the chiefs of 33 environmental agencies of EU and non-EU countries, such as Switzerland, Norway, and several Balkan countries.
The EPA network operates in close cooperation with the European Commission (which takes part in the meetings and activities of the group) and with other networks, including the European Union Network for the Implementation and Enforcement of Environmental Law (IMPEL) and the European Network of Heads of Nature Conservation Agencies (ENCA).
