Energy, Environment and Bioeconomy: the technological collaborations that the Italian foreign office aims to develop in Argentina with the support of ISPRA

ISPRA took part at the first bilateral Scientific and Technological meeting between Italy and Argentina on Energy, Environment and Bioeconomy, which was held in Ushuaia, Province of Tierra del Fuego, from 19 to 21 March. The event, organized by Italian Embassy in Buenos Aires, was held in the framework of the celebrations of the Italian research day in the world, promoted for the first time in 2018 by the Ministries of the University and Research and Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The meeting was very successful with high-level participants, including Lino Baranao, the Argentine Minister for Science, Technology and Productive Innovation. For Italy  participated, among others, Fabrizio Nicoletti, DG Promotion of the Country System of Italian Foreign Office, which  ISPRA is finalizing a cooperation agreement, participated for Italy. ISPRA contributed with an institutional intervention at the meeting opening and interacted with the participants at technical level, exposing its expertise and competencies on satellite technologies, seas and oceans, energy with specific focus on  nuclear.

Special attention was given to the Copernicus Program and the relative roles of Italy and ISPRA, and to ISPRA's capabilities in the field of environmental emergencies at sea. The massive presence of experts and institutions of the Province of Tierra del Fuego, one of the wildest areas and the most fragile environment on the planet, has generated a great demand to cooperate in the various sectors with ISPRA.

Even though Argentina still does not have an environmental protection agency, cooperation agreements were signed between our Ministries of Environment and Foreign Affairs and their respective Argentine institutions, that will facilitate collaboration with ISPRA.
