Tsunami risk: NEAMTWS 2030 Strategy launched
In mid-April 2023, during the last board meeting of the working group of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO which deals with tsunami risk management in the Mediterranean and in the eastern Atlantic, the document presenting the main objectives to improve the early warning systems activated in the area to protect coastal populations.
The 2021-2023 strategy contributing to the Decade of Oceanographic Science for Sustainable Development is based on three pillars of activity: tsunami hazard and risk assessment; the identification of the phenomenon, the alert and the dissemination of information; risk awareness and measures to address it.
The document outlines the main implementation actions of the strategy and also indicates the elements necessary for evaluating the effectiveness of their effectiveness.
