Project MARINA
The activities of the project "Marine knowledge sharing platform" funded by the program "Science with and for Society" of the Community Programme for Research and Innovation Horizon 2020 began on May 1, 2016 and have a duration of 36 months. The project, of which ISPRA is a partner, is coordinated by the Institute for Research on Population and Social Policies (IRPPS) of the National Research Council. The consortium of project involves 14 partners from 12 different Member States and countries associated with the H2020 program, who are committed to the goal of implementing the principles of responsible research and innovation (RRI) to improve citizen involvement in initiatives adopted by the European Commission to tackle the main and most current social challenges.
An online platform to allow the dialogue between all the components involved in the implementation of the Marine Strategy, the sharing of knowledge and experiences even during local and international events and seminars are the tools identified and required by the call and for which the Italian proposal had been presented, positively evaluated and financed by the Grant Agreement 710566 (3 million euro).
ISPRA, recognized for its institutional role of technical-scientific body which actively supports the implementation of EU directives in the environmental field, has been responsible for coordinating the work package called "Policy Mobilisation", concerning the participation of policy makers to the community of research and responsible innovation promoted by the MARINA project and the institutionalization of this concept, in order to improve the way you deal with problems from the political point of view, thanks to a greater sharing of decisions by all stakeholders.
The approach to research and innovation that is developed on the main issues related to the sustainable management of the sea from the MARINA project takes into account all the social actors involved in the subject (scientists, citizens, policy makers, companies, civil society organizations, the world of education, the third sector, etc.) and invites them to work together to achieve the common goal of aligning the processes and results of research and innovation, on various topics related to the social challenges identified by Horizon 2020, with particular reference to marine resources, values, needs and aspirations of society.
