Kick-off meeting TREASURE project

The launch meeting of the TREASURE project - Testing novel environmental quality measures in and around Euro-MED ports - aimed at improving environmental quality in Mediterranean port areas, took place in Livorno on 3 and 4 April. The event included the participation of representatives of the entire European partnership, made up of public-private entities operating for the protection and management of seven different port areas of the Mediterranean (Livorno, Valencia, Piraeus, Bar, Durres, Toulon, Valletta) .
The challenges that we want to respond to through this project refer to the development of better governance between port sectors of interest, the need for a common monitoring framework, capable of assessing the impact and pressures on port environments and finally the introduction of new techniques for the remediation of sediments and polluted waters.
During the meeting, the objectives and methodologies that will be adopted to advance the project were presented. The launch event of the project activities was also an opportunity for the partners to share specific characteristics, knowledge, experiences and priorities of their respective port areas.
The main results of the TREASURE project will include the development of collaboration agreements, protocols for institutional stakeholder cooperation and tools for environmental assessment. These results will benefit not only the participating port areas, but also the Mediterranean in general.
