Guidelines for the recovery, rescue, and management of sea turtles for the purposes of rehabilitation and for scientific purposes
The following guidelines were elaborated thanks to the synergetic work of Institutions and of the research and the NGO communities, with the objective of effectively contributing to the improvement of conservation and rehabilitation activities conducted on marine turtles.
The document aims to provide methods and standards involving rescue and scientific activities conducted on marine turtles. It defines the requirements of marine turtle rescue centers (i.e. equipment, staff, and logistic organization), the operational protocols to be used when handling marine turtles ( i.e. animal transportation, husbandry, rehabilitation and tagging procedures) and data collection standards.
