Guidelines for the determination of the natural background values of the groundwater bodies
The Decree of the Italian Ministry of the Environment of 6th July 2016 modifies the Annex 1 of the Legislative Decree no. 152/2006. In particular, in order to provide the useful elements for the assessment of the chemical status of the groundwater bodies, a guidance is required for the calculation of natural background values. In this document, the proposed methods to determine the background values are articulated according to the significativity of the spatial and temporal dimension of the available dataset.
The guidelines also outline the criteria for attributing the level of reliability (high, medium, low, very low) of the obtained background determination, depending on the amount of available data and, more generally, the cognitive level of the examined groundwater body.
