Monitoring Ostreopsis ovata and other potentially toxic algae along the Italian coast in 2007-2009
Ostreopsis ovata ia a microalgae belonging to the Ostreopsis genus and the ovata species. It has received growing scientific attention over the last ten years both due to their implication in toxic events and the apparent extension of their geographical distribution from the tropical and sub-tropical areas where they originate to temperate areas.
This paper provides an overview of Italian monitoring and research activities on Ostreopsis ovata and other toxic benthic microalgae (eg. Prorocentrum lima e Coolia monotis) in the period 2007-2009.
