Statistical methodology for the analysis of extreme precipitation
In this study a standard statistical methodology for the analysis of extreme precipitation events is illustrated. The GEV model (Block Maxima approach) has been applied to characterize the annual maximum 1-day (RX1) precipitation series and the seasonal maximum 1-day (RX1) and consecutive 5-day (RX5) precipitation series. Conversely, the GPD (Peak Over Threshold approach) has been used to describe seasonal extreme events using daily precipitation records. Input data originate from stations with a uniform distribution over the Italian territory and satisfy rigorous quality and completeness criteria. The main results are here synthesized through appropriate tables and plots.
