Press release about the accident that occurred at the plant of Zaporizhzhya in Ukraine
ISPRA was informed on December 3rd by a notification of the IAEA about an accident that took place in the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, in the southeast of Ukraine.
In particular, based on the information contained in the INES report (International Nuclear Event Scale) prepared by the Ukrainian Authority for Nuclear Safety, the event was caused by a malfunction that affected the electrical system of the turbine hall - Unit 3 of the plant. Consequently this reactor was shut down. In the report it is stated that the event did not cause abnormal radiological emissions of significant value. The event was rated at level 0 on the INES scale, and therefore has no safety significance.
