World Day to combat desertification
Rome, June 17
Since 1994 UN
declared June 17 to be World Day to combat desertification,
giving to UNCCD the task to promote the celebration of it. This
year the chosen topic is “Combating Land Degradation for
Sustainable Agriculture”, which is also the subject of the
works of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD)
for the present two years.
The National committee to combat desertification and drought (CNLSD
- Comitato Nazionale per la Lotta alla Siccità e alla
Desertificazione) and the Ministry for the Environment and the
Protection of Land and Sea want to give their share to the
celebrations going on in all the world, remarking the commitment
for a coherent and pragmatic action responding to all the new
national and international challenges.
