Soil biodiversity, the invisible hero
25 March The Soil Team of the European Commission let widely circulate the new Report on “Soil Biodiversity : functions, threats and tools for policy makers” and the related Press Release “ Soil Biodiversity, the invisible hero”. The Framework Directive on Soil Protection proposed in 2006 is unable to take off because of oppositions of some Member States, although the Environment Commissioner Potocnik held on to it in the last EU Environment Council held on March 15th . Moreover he underlined the transboundary effects of a bad soil management and the strong influence on climate changes and biodiversity. However the EU Spanish Presidency recognised the need to keep on working on this important dossier.
