“Carta della Natura” System of Sardinia

The report represents the final output of the activities undertaken for the realization of Map of the Nature System in Sardinia. It shows the results given by a close collaboration between ISPRA, Sardinia Region and University of Sassari, begun in 2005 and finished in 2010.

After a brief focus on the bio-climatic and geo-environmental features of Sardinia, the second chapter of the report deals with the method used for the production of the Map of habitats of the region at the scale 1:50.000 and with a distributive analisys of the habitats included in the map. The third chapter shows the habitat assessment process in order to obtain an estimation of the Ecological Value and Environmental Fragility of the habitats included in the map. The results are illustrated and commented by the use of statistic analisys, based on the environmental situation of the region.

The Map of the Nature information system is an instrument for the knowledge of basic naturalistic information, available for many purposes at a national and regional level, as for example environmental evaluations and territorial planning, but also in support of activities at international level.
