Lynx LIFE Project breaks important new ground

7 March The Iberian lynx is in the red list among endangered animals and year after year the specimen number dramatically declines. Lynx LIFE project, the spanish project for the conservation and reintroduction of the Iberian lynx in Andalucía is part of the European Commission LIFE-Nature Programme. The objective of the programme is to contribute to the enforcement of the community directive regarding the conservation of nature to maintain and improve natural habitats, and animal and plant species in Natura 2000 Network. The project expected to be completed in July 2011 has released its first captively bred lynx into the Guarrizaz area near Jaen. This marks a significant achievement for the capti ve breeding programme, but also in the recolonisation of those areas deserted by the world's most endangered feline. The project succeeded in developing good social interaction between them and the learning of hunting and other survival techniques.
