Special inspection at the plant ITREC - Trisaia (MT)

ISPRA carried out an extraordinary inspection at the plant ITREC of Trisaia (MT) following the communication received from SO.G.I.N. SpA, manager of the plant, after an abnormal event took place on 21 August. In particular, this event occurred during the preparatory operations for the reclamation of the buried monolith containing radioactive waste from past activities of the plant. The operations took place within an enclosure of the area purposly realized.
It was a moderate percolation of contaminated liquid from the plaster protection of the monolith - partially removed to allow the necessary surveys for the removal of the monolith itself - which led to the contamination of a small area of ​​land (about 2 square meters) above the monolith, for a depth of 20-30 cm.
