Atlas of Italian Submarine Volcanic Structures
Seabed studies have had a considerable boost in the last 30 years thanks to technological innovation, which allowed to investigate a part of territory that is not visible to traditional geological surveying. The collection of countless data within an extremely comprehensive national database is one of the greatest achievements of the CARG Project together with the experience gained in the cartography discipline. They have allowed the Geological Survey of Italy to participate succesfully, as Italian partner in the frame of EuroGeoSurveys (Association of European Geological Surveys, http://www.eurogeosurveys.org/), in the EMODnet Geology European Project (http://www.emodnet-geology.eu/) which collects and harmonizes data from european marine areas. The Geological Survey of Italy has delivered all of the required data which included seafloor deposits, basement stratigraphy, coastal behaviour, mineral resources and Geological events. Moreover, the Geological Survey of Italy has led Work Package 6 "Geological events and probabilities", in which data on landslides, earthquakes, volcanoes, fluid emissions, tsunamis and Quaternary tectonics have been conveyed. This volume collates the main results of the EMODnet Geology Project regarding submerged volcanic structures in Italian Seas, obtained through the longlasting cooperation with the Department of Sciences-Geology of the RomaTRE University addressed at volcanic areas mapping.
