International Nuclear Emergency Exercise (INEX-5) organized by the Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) of the OECD
On March 16, 2016 was held the INEX-5 nuclear emergency international exercise, promoted by the Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) of the OECD. The exercise was co-organized by Italy, Austria, Croatia, Slovenia and Hungary. For the purposes of the organization, ISPRA has operated as a national contact point. Exercise was also attended by the Incident and Emergency Centre of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The Italian participation, which was held at ISPRA, entailed the activation of the Nuclear Emergency Center of the Institute and the Data Processing Centre (Cevad) which includes, in addition to ISPRA, representatives of the Operative Meteorology Center, the Institute of
Health, the Fire Brigade, the National Institute for Insurance against Accidents at Work and the State-Regions Conference and the participation of experts of the Regional Agency for Environmental Protection (ARPA) of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
The exercise objectives have focussed on the verification of the international prompt notification systems and rapid exchange of emergency information, also with reference to the agreement of cooperation between the ISPRA and the Slovenian Nuclear Safety Authority (SNSA), the test on the mechanisms of international co-operation between neighboring countries and more specific aspects of nuclear emergency management at national level. In this
regard the exercise aimed at verifiyng the complex structure of technical support in decision-making.
