Spills of petroleum products: security and control of maritime transport
In this report, data concerning oil spills in marine waters occurred during the maritime transport are presented. The observed positive trend - the number of accidents and the quantity of oil spilled is decreasing in time - is mainly due to a safer tanker design, to a more strict international legislation about maritime transport and to more severe controls on ships in ports.
