European Green Capital
On February 23, in Brussels, at the presence of EU
Commissioner for Science and Research Janez Potocnik, were awarded
the prizes to the first edition of the "European Green
Capital".
The "European Green Capital" was established by the European
Commission to be elected every year since 2010, a city that has
demonstrated to have achieved high standards of environmental
quality and to be committed to ambitious goals for further
environmental improvement and sustainable development.
The purpose of this award is to develop a healthy competition
between cities in order to promote environmental progress, as well
as to serve as a model and encourage other European cities to the
best practices.
