EC adopted the first strategy for plastics : a public consultation is online

The Plastics Strategy adopted by the European Commission on January 16 is part of Europe's transition towards a circular economy with the aim of protecting the environment from plastic pollution and promoting growth and innovation. The strategy will transform the way plastic products are designed, used, produced and recycled in the EU. This new approach will provide new opportunities for innovation, competitiveness, investment and jobs. With the Plastics Strategy the Commission has adopted a monitoring framework composed of a set of ten indicators which cover each phase of the cycle, which will measure progress towards the transition to a circular economy at EU and national level.

The key objectives of this long term strategy are: to make recycling profitable for business, to curb plastic waste, to stop littering at sea, to drive investment and innovation and to spur change across the world. With the aim of providing contributions, input and data for the preparation of the follow-up to the Plastics Strategy in relation to marine litter, a public consultation has been launched. General public, business associations, companies, researchers and experts, NGOs, international organizations and institutions, fishermen and fisheries organizations can participate to the consultation by answering the online questionnaire.
