Release prevention, environmental behaviour, remediation and monitoring of biofuels
The introduction and use of any new fuel may cause impacts related to the potential impact on the environment and biofuels are no exception. Due to the different properties of biofuels, they show known or reasonably expected differences in the environmental behaviour compared to traditional fuels. The different properties of biofuels and their behaviour in the environment can be assessed using an approach that, starting from new strategies for its characterization, passes through the human health and environment risk assessment of their components (including additives) present in mixtures and their degradation products in the short and long term, arrives to the application of risk reduction measures.
