Timing to obtain the registration

How long does it take to complete the process and obtain EMAS registration or its renewal?

Registration or renewal is granted by the Ecolabel Ecoaudit Committee after a technical-administrative investigation, carried out by ISPRA technicians in order to verify compliance with both administrative requirements (e.g. payment of the required registration fees, sending the annual update in the intermediate years of the validity of the registration, the presence of the notification in the case of an environmental verifier accredited in another Member State, etc.), and the technical requirements referred to by the same EMAS Regulation (the correct activity by the environmental verifier, the '' absence of relevant complaints against the applicant, any previous environmental accidents, the correct use of the indicators, the analysis of the contents of the environmental declaration, etc.).

Once the technical investigation has been completed, ISPRA sends the final report to the Ecolabel Ecoaudit Committee for the decision of the individual case. The Committee, made up of expert members appointed by the ministries involved, meets periodically, generally every 30-40 days, to examine the requests.
Therefore, it is clear that it is not possible to precisely define an a priori timing and that each case is different from the others, in consideration of the variables that could occur for each.
Organizations are therefore advised to consider the technical times described above when planning their communication with interested parties, for example in the case of advertising campaigns or participation in tenders that require EMAS registration.
