Trento: 17-20 September 2015 - In war with Eagles - geologists and cartographers on alpine front of the Great War - Second circular

The alpine environment, and the Dolomites in particular, represented the most extreme conditions in which the troops of the opposing armies where fighting during the First World War. The difficulties were not only due to the topography of the Dolomites, but also the geological and geomorphological features of the area. The role of geologists and cartographers of the time has been underestimated until today and will be highlighted with a specific conference that aims to remember from a historically and geologically point of view the places, events and characters involved in the conflict for the celebration of the centenary of the Italian participation in the First World War. Organized by ISPRA, the Italian Geological Society, Geologische Bundesanstalt of Vienna and MUSE, the conference will provide four thematic sessions: Geology and war; the  mountain studied, the mountain domesticated and wounded, the mountain remembers
