Second meeting of the CIS on nuclear safety – Zurich 29-31 May 2013
Last week, delegations from the Italian nuclear safety regulatory authority ISPRA (Institute for Environmental Protection and Research) and ENSI met in Zurich for the Second Meeting of the Swiss-Italian Commission on Cooperation in Nuclear Safety (CIS). Also the Italian Civil Protection Department and the National Emergency Operations Centre participated in the meeting.
ISPRA Director General Stefano Laporta and ENSI Director General Hans Wanner discussed the recent national regulatory activities since the last CIS-meeting held in Rome in November 2012. During the meeting the delegations also discussed several topics of mutual interest related to the areas of decommissioning, waste management and nuclear/radiological emergency and accident management.
At the end, both delegations agreed to strengthen the bilateral cooperation by enhancing the exchange of experience on the site selection process for repositories for radioactive waste (geological and near surface) and the elaboration of technical guides on decommissioning. Following the invitation formulated by the Swiss delegation the Italian participation in the next Swiss Large Scale Emergency Exercise was also decided.
The next CIS meeting is scheduled to be held in Italy in 2014
