Second World Conference on the Revitalization of the Mediterranean Diet

The second World Conference on the Revitalization of the Mediterranean Diet titled “Strategies towards more sustainable food systems in the Mediterranean Region. The Mediterranean Diet as a lever for bridging food consumption and production in a sustainable and healthy way” will be held in different historical venues in close proximity in the heart of Palermo, such as S. Cecilia Theatre, the Modern Art Gallery, the Municipal Historical Archive, and the Comitini/S. Elia Palaces.

The conference is divided into 18 thematic sessions that will give rise to reflections and comparisons focus on the sustainability of food consumption and production in Mediterranean countries, using the Mediterranean diet as a sustainable and healthy lever for the human and environmental well-being of the present and future generation.There are 18 thematic sessions and seven important side events. The Conference is held under the Auspices of the Sicilian Region, the City of Palermo, the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM), the Union for the Mediterranean, the International Foundation of Mediterranean Diet (IFMeD), the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the International Cooperation and the European Federation of Nutrition Societies. It is organized by the Forum of the Mediterranean Food Cultures and CIHEAM-Bari, with the support of numerous regional institutions and scientific bodies.

An ISPRA expert will participate in the Conference with a speech entitled "Diet change, food waste prevention and reduction, farming system diversification towards a sustainable Mediterranean region" in the session 12 title "Coping with Food Losses and Waste in the Mediterranean through more Sustainable Food Systems".

ISPRA will coordinate the event dedicated to “Blue Economy, Green Economy and Circular Economy, An Italian Contribution to the 5 + 5 Dialogue of the “ ummit of the Two Shores” together with the BIG and ENEA Technology Cluster.
