The communication routes in antiquity

The roads have always been the mirror of the civilization of the territory on which they live and consequently their  design and development can never be separated from the geological, biological, and therefore landscape, context that surrounds them. The conference will focus on construction techniques, the technical measures implemented to take advantage of the geomorphology and, vice versa, overcome the geomorphological obstacles encountered along the way (rivers, gorges, marshes, etc.), the use of lithologies for supply of materials needed for construction.

In addition, the river characteristics will be treated to locate port facilities and how to reach sites of economic, political or military interest.
