Memorandum of Understanding for Marine Sciences signed between ISPRA and Zhejiang Ocean University
This morning the President of ISPRA and the President of the Zhejiang Ocean University (ZJOU) of the People's Republic of China signed a new Memorandum of Understanding to consolidate the bilateral cooperation activities between the two Institutes in the field of Marine Sciences.

The collaboration between ZJOU and ISPRA in particular with the Section for the assessment of ecological risk in marine-coastal areas of Livorno is a long and solid collaboration that has produced important results on the study of the ecotoxicological effects of nanoparticles on marine plankton. This new agreement focuses on a new area of study and research, "ecotoxicogenomics and the assessment of anthropogenic impacts on the marine ecosystem" also in the context of the establishment of a joint laboratory between ISPRA and ZOU, but also opened to other institutes such as the University of Pisa and the Anton Dohrn Zoological Station with which ISPRA has already signed collaboration agreements.
The sign of the Protocol has opened the 1st bilateral Italy-China Workshop on scientific and technological research and higher education in the field of marine sciences. A day of work that started with an institutional panel and continued with two sessions focused on scientific and technological research and higher education. The themes of biodiversity, sustainability, the blue and circular economy and climate change were the main topics of the institutional panel.
The Ambassador of Italy in Beijing His Excellency Dr. Luca Ferrari stressed the importance of strengthening scientific collaboration between Italy and China in the field of marine sciences for the protection of the largest ecosystem on the planet. The president of ISPRA spoke of the Blue Economy as one of the great pillars of development of the next and future economy that requires synergistic and win-win actions and the possibility of achieving results in various sectors of the marine sciences. For the President of the ZJOU, the collaboration between the two countries is a cooperation that goes beyond science, but also concerns the culture and history of Italy and China.
