From 29 September to 1 October will be held at the Polo of Lecco of Politecnico di Milano, the XIX Conference ASITA 2015.
ISPRA will participate at the conference presenting in the session 5: Principles and evolution of cartography: from historical maps to 2.0, a communication entitled "The Geology of Rome (1820-2008): the evolution of geological knowledge through historical maps of the city". The historical maps represent a special point for the analysis of urban land and to understand its evolution along time, in particular for the urban area of Rome.
The spreading of scientific information contained in this type of documents is considered a very important target, also with the utilization of the potential offered by Web applications (e.g.: lStory Maps), that allow the production of a catalog of georeferenced maps. The material used belongs to the historical collection of the Library of ISPRA that inherited the cartographic heritage from the Geological Survey of Italy.
