Africa Centers of Excellence (ACE) International Partnerships Workshop

On the occasion of the tenth anniversary (2014-2024) of the activities to promote excellent postgraduate education in Africa carried out by the Africa Centers of Excellence (ACE) will take place in Mauritius from 8 to 10 May 2024, the First Workshop of International Partnerships of African Centers of Excellence.

The organization of the event sees the collaboration of the two regional units for the projects of the Centers of Excellence for Higher Education in Africa (Regional Facilitating Units for the Africa Higher Education Centers of Excellence projects) the Inter-university Council for East Africa ( Inter-University Council for East Africa) and the Association of African Universities (AAU), together with the World Bank (World Bank) and the French Development Agency (Agence Française de Développement, AFD).

The 80 African centers of excellence will come together to address the main theme of the initiative: Building Pathways Towards Sustainability through Collaborative Research and Innovation. The meeting will feature key European and African government officials, private sector representatives, university leaders, academics from host institutions and experts from think tanks, policymakers and development partners such as the World Bank and AFD.

The European partnership Water4All of which ISPRA is a partner, will participate in the initiative in order to deepen the opportunities for collaboration in the thematic research area on water. The international conference, in fact, aims to build bridges between the European Union and the African Union, promote engagement and exchange of knowledge between Africa, Europe and other continents.

During the meeting the following topics will be addressed:

- collaboration with African universities through programs supported by the Regional Scholarship and Innovation Fund co-financed by African national governments, the World Bank and South Korea (Regional Scholarship and Innovation Fund, RSIF), the flagship program of the Partnership for Skills in Applied Sciences, Engineering and Technology (PASET), an Africa-led initiative and affiliated with the World Bank;

- possible collaborations with the European Water4All Partnership.

In particular, ISPRA will present the initiatives of Pillar C of Water4All, which it coordinates, dedicated to Science, Policy and users interface, within which the promotion of various capacity building activities is underway (doctoral programmes, professional training, mobility programme, sharing of training material) which could be of particular interest to the African countries involved.
