Program RE MO. National monitoring network on soil biodiversity and land degradation.

This booklet (Quaderno) contains a proposal for establishing a monitoring network of Italian soil biodiversity and land degradation (ReMo), prepared by a specific technical table set up by ISPRA.

This technical table is formed by representatives of ISPRA Nature Defence, Soil Defence and State of the Environment and Environmental Metrology Departments, as well as by external experts, representatives of several public and private bodies.

The ReMo project originated by a European Commission information request for 2009 Country Profile, concerning the areas at risk of soil biodiversity loss.

Moreover, the National Strategy for Biodiversity designates the start of a national program for soil biodiversity monitoring as one of the action priorities useful to achieve the specific goals hitherto defined.

To take care for soil biodiversity, therefore, is an investment that should not be overlooked: it grants to future generations a safeguard fund that allows them to have sufficient food, health and welfare resources, arising largely from the unseen, but irreplaceable, work that soil organisms play underground.

The booklet also contains a form of consent and census to gather the currently available information on Italian soil biodiversity and related research in progress.

The publication is available only in electronic format.
