Methodology for the identification and classification of the ecological potential of heavily modified (HMWB) and artificial (AWB) water bodies for coastal and transitional waters
In the framework of the implementation of the Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC), this Guideline was developed by the National Working Group for the identification and classification of the ecological potential of heavily modified water bodies (HMWB) and artificial water bodies (AWB) for coastal and transitional waters.
The WG, coordinated by representatives of the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security - General Directorate for sustainable use of soil and water resources (USSRI), and composed of experts from the Italian National Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA) (technical coordination), of the River Basins Authorities, of the Regions and of representatives of the Regional Environmental Protection Agencies (ARPA), has developed a methodology to be implemented throughout the national territory.
