Port Environmental Review System (PERS)
The book consists of an introduction describing the scheme and a guide to the implementation of a port environmental management system, according to the same scheme. In particular, the PERS provides a series of commitments for a port authority (such as, for example, the publication of a periodical report on the state of the environment, the monitoring of a series of environmental indicators, etc ...) to operate according to the directions of the European Union, which encourages the adoption of such environmental management instruments for a sustainable development of the European port sector (European Economic and Social Committee 2007 / C 168/12). On a voluntary basis, the port authority may also require certification for its environmental management system according to the PERS scheme, accredited by independent bodies.
