Measurement procedure for the determination of total hydrocarbons in waters

Within the framework of the activities of the National System for Environmental Protection, a Working group was established, including ISPRA, ARPA/APPA, ISS and CNR-IRSA, aimed at developing a new measurement procedure for the determination of total hydrocarbon in waters. The work was set up with the aim of identifying, according to internationally accepted standards, a single method based on measurements by GC-FID after extraction with solvents suitable in all respects (analytical, environmental, and safety). The measuring procedure developed was validated in 2014 through a collaborative study which allowed to define the performance characteristics and the results of which led to its final draft. Manual and Guideline MLG 123/15 "Measurement procedure for the determination of total hydrocarbons in waters" includes the procedure and the final report of the collaborative study.
