La geologia della Sardegna
The present-day position of the Sardinia Island is the result of a complex geological history that testifies, more or less completely, some of the greatest geodynamic events occurred in the last 400 Ma (Variscan, Thetys and Alpine s.l. evolution). Actually, there crop out sedimentary, magmatic and metamorphic rocks emplaced during the whole Phanerozoic eon and of the last part of the Proterozoic.
This guide to the field trip happened at the end of the 84th National meeting of the Società Geologica Italiana, allows to appreciate directly a part of this complexity.
The first day is dedicated to the Meso-cenozoic stratigraphic and tectonic evolution observable in the central-northern side of the island. The second day allows to visit the Variscan nappe zone that crops out in Central Sardinia. The third day is dedicated to the variscan foreland in Southern Sardinia where the formations developed along the ancient North Gondwana margin are well preserved.
Although some small revisions that take in account some recent papers, text as well as the itinerary is the same of the original field trip.
