Ancient decorative stones

An illustrated and thoughtful catalog of part of "antique decorative Stones" of the Geological Survey of Italy "Federico Pescetto" and "Pio De Sanctis" collections. This volume examines the lithoid classes regarding Hard, semi-hard, semi-precious stones; the Porphyry and the basalts; Granites and properly so called Serpentine. In appendix are provided information on lithological types most commonly used by the Romans and the list of churches and Roman buildings where the lithoid essays described in the book can be found.
