LED lighting and environmental sustainability

The purpose of this work is to carry out an updated overview on lighting systems based on LED technology, considering environmental impact aspects that are relevant to the activities of this Institute, such as light pollution, impacts on flora and fauna and energy saving. Moreover, some aspects related to the health impact of LED technology are taken into consideration, as this new technology, in case of some products on the market, presents high emission in the blue band, the spectral band that is able, in case of intense and prolonged exposures, to induce damage to the retina and for this reason, should be investigated deeper.
