Database quarries and mines geological service of Italy - GEMMA

A national geological-mining database in line with European standards is being defined and implemented, based on the database of the project for the creation of national geological cartography at a scale of 1:50,000 - CARG project and on its integration and implementation with data deriving from other existing databases.

The Project will allow the confluence of all existing mining data on the geological substrate and the data that will populate the DB will derive from:

1. CARG database with the information reported in layer ST013, resources and prospecting on active and disused quarries and mines.

2. Database "Italian abandoned mining sites, 1870-2006", update after 2016 and "Provisional national inventory of Type A storage structures" (carried out by Eng. Carlo Dacquino), "Update of the national inventory of Type A filing” (in preparation, Ing. Carlo Dacquino and Dr. Monica Serra).

3. Data provided by the mining sites that signed the Memorandum of Understanding for the creation of the ReMi Museums and Mining Parks network (Ministry of Economic Development, Regions, Museums and Mining Parks, mining site managers, etc.)

4. The database resulting from the joint ISPRA-ISTAT survey in support of the Anthropic Pressures and Natural Risks Project of the National Statistical Plan. This survey, on an annual basis, has the purpose of defining the current situation of the extraction of material from quarries and mines, from the extraction phase (type of material, location of the site, depth of the water table, presence of constraints on the area, etc.) to the production of non-energy mineral raw materials with the related by-products and the subsequent restoration of the affected areas.

The geological-mining database will be designed according to European standards to join the European platform on mineral resources (adaptation to the MINERALS4EU Project).
